I have just finished studying for a B.A. (Hons) in Textile Design
at the University of Derby where I specialised in Weave. I enjoy hand weaving because it enables me
to use different yarns to create different patterns and textures but latterly my
work has been mainly designed directly onto the Jacquard Design software or by
scanning from my sketch book into Jacquard Designer and developing the designs
further.
As my skills developed I found that I enjoyed creating
weaves with texture and have experimented with padded stitches in my current
collection which includes fabrics suitable for bedspreads and throws.
The design inspiration for my final collection, entitled ‘Morocco’,
was Islamic geometric designs and the colourful designs found in a Moroccan
souk. Having experimented with several colours, my final colour palette was
chosen: barracuda blue, piccalilli yellow, crab apple orange and ecru in pure lamb’s
wool from Uppingham Yarns. The mercerised coloured cotton used in some of the bedding range were sourced from My Fine Weaving Yarns.
The woven designs can be viewed in the main blog.
